- Lord Krishna - an avatar of Lord Vishnu was born in last quarter of Dvapar yuga as a cowherd in Mathura - Vrindavan Area. Lord Krishna was born to father Vasu Dev and mother Devaki in a jail situated in Mathura Vrindavan district of Uttar Pradesh state of India in the later third quarter of the Dvapar Yuga. Indian mythological folklores and art forms always mention Krishna as playing flute amidst milkmaid Gopis and cows. Lord Krishna is always referred to as ' 'Gopala' and 'Govind ' (Protector and friend of cows). He fondly tended 'Surabhi' cows and considered them his, friend, soul mate, and mother. His affection for cows can be understood by the following legend.
