The deer is s symbol of how all the earths creates revere Shiva as their lord. The ax is symbolic weapon meant for the destruction of lost souls. Parvati is Lord Shiva's consort and wife. In homes and temples throughout south India statues of Lord Shiva are almost always accompanied by a statue of Parvati. Lord Shiva usually has Parvati in the standing posture beside him.
